ecpc Performance League Launch – A New Era for English Volleyball Development

During the final 2025/26 England Senior Men and U22 training weekend, the coaching staff took the opportunity to pause, reflect, and—most importantly—listen.

With approximately 40 athletes in attendance across the weekend, a full season review was conducted to understand what had worked, what hadn’t, and where we could go next. The message from the group was clear: the current model of seven training weekends had real value—but there was a desire for more meaningful competition, more accountability, and more opportunities to perform under pressure.

Out of that conversation came a proposal.

A proposal that the athletes didn’t just accept—but fully bought into.

That proposal is now the ecpc Performance League.

🔥 What Is the ecpc Performance League?

The ecpc Performance League is a season-long, competitive, team-based league embedded within the England performance programme for the 2026/27 season.

It builds on the existing structure of seven training weekends but adds a crucial layer:

👉 Consistent, high-level competition with purpose and consequence

Each weekend will still follow the proven format:

  • Morning: Position-specific and unit-based training

  • Afternoon & Evening: Competitive match play

But now, every match, every set, every point, every play, every touch will all matter.

🏐 How It Works

1. Four Teams – One Season

All selected athletes will be allocated into balanced teams at the start of the season. These teams will remain consistent throughout the year, creating:

  • Identity

  • Rivalry

  • Accountability

  • Cohesion

Athletes won’t just be turning up to train—they’ll be representing their team.

2. Season-Long Competition

Across the seven weekends, teams will compete in a structured league format:

  • Matches played every weekend

  • Points accumulated across the season

  • League table tracked and published

This creates something we’ve not had before: Long-term performance pressure and consequence

3. Performance Data & Analysis

Every match will be:

  • Recorded

  • Statistically analysed

  • Tracked across the season

Key performance metrics such as:

  • Serving efficiency

  • Attack success rates

  • Blocking impact

  • Passing quality

  • Defensive contributions

…will all be captured. Athletes will have access to their data, allowing them to:

  • Reflect on performances

  • Track development

  • Take ownership of improvement

4. Individual & Team Recognition

At the end of the season, performance will be recognised through a series of awards, including:

  • Most Effective Server

  • Most Effective Wing Hitter

  • Most Effective Middle Hitter

  • Most Effective Blocker

  • Most Assists Created

  • Best Service Reception Passer

  • Most Defensive Contributions

Alongside this, the ultimate goal: 🏆 ecpc Performance League Champions

5. Athlete Ownership & Environment Standards

This isn’t just about playing more games. Athletes will play an active role in:

  • Driving standards

  • Upholding behaviours

  • Supporting each other’s development

Ambassadors within the group will help police standards and reinforce the culture, ensuring the environment reflects the expectations of international performance.

6. Exposure & Opportunity

With matches recorded and shared, the league will provide:

  • Increased visibility for athletes

  • Opportunities for selection insight

  • A platform for showcasing performance

This is about preparing athletes not just for training—but for international competition environments.

🚀 Why This Matters

The gap between training and international competition is often where development is lost.

The ecpc Performance League is designed to close that gap by:

  • Replicating competitive pressure

  • Creating meaningful consequence

  • Embedding accountability

  • Driving consistency across a full season

This is not an add-on.

This is a shift in how we develop English athletes.

💬 Athlete-Led. Performance-Driven.

What makes this different is where it came from.

This wasn’t imposed.

It was shaped by the athletes themselves—their feedback, their ambition, and their desire to be better.

🔴 The 2026/27 Season Starts Now

The introduction of the ecpc Performance League marks the beginning of something bigger:

  • A more competitive environment

  • A more accountable system

  • A clearer pathway to international performance

And most importantly…

👉 A platform where performance matters—every weekend, every match, every point

If you’re part of it, you’ll feel it.

If you’re watching it, you’ll see it.

This is the ecpc Performance League.
