The ecpc Performance League has been built to challenge one of the biggest issues in sport — that access to high-level environments is too often determined by privilege.

Financial barriers, geography, and existing networks continue to determine who gets seen, developed, and who progresses.

This league exists to change that — creating an elite international competitive environment where athletes are judged on what they do, not what they have.

Why This Exists

Too many athletes fall out of the system between club and senior level — not because of a lack of ability, but because of a lack of access.

My first passport only existed because support was put in place for me to compete at the World Schools Games in 1998. Coming from a single-parent, working-class background, those opportunities were not a given — without that support, my journey may have stopped there.

The ecpc Performance League exists to ensure opportunity is not dependent on circumstance — creating a level playing field where athletes are judged on performance, not privilege.

How We Reduce Barriers

ecpc Performance League – show up, show off.

A four-team, seven-round competition, with each team playing every other team across the series. Matches are 5 sets to 15 with all sets played. Every match is live-streamed on the ecpc Performance League YouTube channel and performance is captured and analysed using Hudl enabling robust, data-driven insight at both athlete and programme level. The league is designed to create a consistently demanding performance environment where technical execution, tactical decision-making, physical readiness, and psychological resilience can be objectively assessed over time. Insights generated through match analysis are used to inform athlete development, role clarity, and programme progression, reinforcing a culture of accountability, learning, and continuous improvement. Athletes are expected to show up with professionalism and intent, and show off their ability to perform under pressure.

    Although parts of my professional experience abroad were reflected in a tangible contract, in England “professional” is often defined by mindset. We have frequently operated at a deficit compared to our peers across Europe: in the number of daily contacts we get with a ball, and in the quality of those contacts. Yet we have still found ways to close that gap. Our National Team has much to fight for and prove in challenging conditions — but at every stage of the journey there is something inescapably inspiring about stepping on to a court with the best your country has to offer.

    Rooted in a framework that has already helped shape the National Team environment, and built around a mentality second to none in this country, the ecpc Performance League represents a major step forward in how our game can evolve.     In my view, there is less separating us from some of the best volleyball in the world than we might think. I’m thrilled to compete with and against fellow Ambassadors and athletes in the ecpc Performance League, and to be part of a powerful answer to the opening question.
